Skin Stories: Celina shares how she got her acne under control

Hormonal acne, pimples, and oily skin: Our social media manager Celina suffered from moderate to severe acne during puberty. In today's blog post, she shares how she learned to manage her skin, what helped her, and which products she uses today to keep her acne under control.

Impurities, acne and pimples since puberty

Even as a teenager, my skin was prone to blemishes; I never had the perfect, poreless skin of some other girls my age. When I started taking the pill at 16, my skin improved considerably. However, when I stopped taking the pill two years later, my skin immediately worsened again, and I began to struggle with cystic acne . Not just on my face, but also on my décolleté and back. My skin was constantly red and very sensitive. I tried to cover up the blemishes with many layers of makeup, with little success. At school, I was teased and laughed at for my excessive makeup.

The psychological impact of acne is often overlooked and not taken seriously. People then offer advice like "Eat less sugar" or "Wear less makeup." Dermatologists prescribe ointments that either have little effect or are extremely irritating. My skincare routine at the time consisted primarily of harsh anti-acne products, full of drying alcohol, essential oils, and perfume.

At some point, my suffering became so severe that I desperately sought a new doctor, who thankfully finally took me seriously and introduced me to a powerful anti-acne medication . I took this medication for six months, and my acne improved week by week, and my self-confidence slowly returned.

Because my acne is hormonal, it never completely disappeared. However, I've learned to accept my skin as it is and deal with it. I've now found products and active ingredients that help me.

Celina's skincare routine today: Gentle cleansing, retinol and salicylic acid (BHA)

I'd like to share with you what helped me, because maybe it will help you too. First, I eliminated all harsh cleansers from my routine. In the morning, I mostly just use water, and at night, I like to cleanse my face with our Gentle Oil Cleanser. It effectively removes makeup, excess oil, and my sunscreen without over-drying my skin. Because of my oily skin, I was initially apprehensive about using oil-based products. But that's not a problem at all; there are many oils that are great for oily skin.

My favorite serums from DAYTOX are the Retinol Serum and the Clear Skin Serum.

I use the retinol serum 2-3 times a week, exclusively in the evening. Catalog Category Link is a great active ingredient for people struggling with blemishes. It accelerates cell renewal, allowing blemishes to disappear quickly. A pleasant side effect: Retinol (vitamin A), the anti-aging hero ingredient, reduces wrinkles and makes the skin smoother and more even. This way, I can now effectively prevent wrinkles.

I can't function without salicylic acid! I can't live without this active ingredient—and therefore our Clear Skin Serum. Especially just before my period, my skin produces more sebum, and the salicylic acid helps my pores drain the sebum more easily, preventing them from clogging and pimples from forming in the first place.

To finish everything off, I always use sunscreen during the day, as this prevents acne scars from darkening and helps them heal faster. In the evening, I like to use a light cream like Cell Repair or Daily Hydration.
