5 reasons why we love vitamin C

Vitamin C – THE active ingredient for a beautiful glow and an essential part of skincare. Its antioxidant, firming, and brightening properties make it one of the most popular ingredients in cosmetics. Whether in a serum, day cream, or face mask, we'll explain why you should definitely try vitamin C.

1. The effective antioxidant slows down the aging process

Every day, your skin is exposed to free radicals that cause premature aging. Free radicals are metabolic products, so-called aggressive molecules that lack an electron. To stabilize themselves, they steal the electron from other molecules in the skin, thereby damaging it. UV radiation, cigarette and alcohol consumption, stress, lack of sleep, and air pollution lead to a particularly high concentration of harmful free radicals and trigger oxidative stress in your skin. Irritation and inflammation, such as pimples, acne, or wrinkles, are unfortunately the result. To prevent free radicals from damaging your skin, you need antioxidants.

But what are antioxidants and how do they work?

Antioxidants are free radical scavengers and play a vital role in our body. They deactivate reactive oxygen species in the body, whose excessive presence leads to oxidative stress. This causes cell and tissue damage and is partly responsible for the aging process. To maintain your skin's elasticity and regenerative capacity, it's important to use skincare products containing antioxidants.

A particularly strong antioxidant is vitamin C

That's why there are very effective cosmetic products containing this vitamin, such as our DAYTOX Vitamin C Serum or DAYTOX Vitamin C Cream. As a highly effective antioxidant, it protects the skin's collagen structure, which is damaged by free radicals. Vitamin C has been proven to help the body produce new collagen, thus slowing the formation of wrinkles and the aging process.

2. Vitamin C is a miracle weapon against pimples and acne

The antioxidant effect of vitamin C has been proven to help relieve micro-inflammations in the skin. Free radicals, which cause oxidation processes, usually trigger pimples or even acne. As a powerful antioxidant, vitamin C has anti-inflammatory effects and visibly soothes the skin. Therefore, it's a good idea to incorporate products containing vitamin C into your daily skincare routine. The DAYTOX Vitamin C Serum and DAYTOX Vitamin C Cream effectively support the healing process. At the same time, they prevent new pimples. The complexion looks even and healthy again.

3. Vitamin C provides a beautiful glow!

Vitamin C gives you a fresh boost! It helps the skin produce more collagen, giving it youthful firmness and elasticity.

Another positive effect: This powerful vitamin counteracts excessive melanin production and inhibits the formation of unsightly pigment spots and age spots caused by harmful UV light. Vitamin C also has a natural exfoliating effect. Dead skin cells that make the complexion look gray and dull are gently removed. The result: healthy, clear skin that glows from within!

4. Vitamin C is an important health booster

Did you know that the human body cannot produce vitamin C itself? Therefore, it is important to supply the body with sufficient amounts of this vitamin (approximately 100 mg per day). Ascorbic acid (vitamin C) is needed to build connective tissue, bones, and teeth, as well as for proper wound healing. Carcinogenic nitrogen compounds, also known as nitrosamines, which are found in some foods, such as sausages, are rendered harmless thanks to vitamin C.

Vitamin C also ensures optimal immune system function. Free radicals, which are produced during normal metabolic processes, but also by UV radiation, nicotine, and medications, are neutralized by vitamin C.

So check your diet and make sure you're getting enough foods rich in vitamin C. Berries of all kinds, citrus fruits, as well as herbs, broccoli, peppers, and Brussels sprouts contain a lot of vitamin C and thus cover your daily needs in a variety of ways.

5. There are different forms of vitamin C

There are very different forms of vitamin C that are suitable for external application and used in cosmetics. These include:

  • Ascorbic acid (pure vitamin C)
  • Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate or Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (salt-like ester form)
  • Ethyl ascorbic acid (a water-soluble ester form)
  • Fat-soluble vitamin C esters, such as Ascorbyl Palmitate or Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate.

Ascorbic acid (pure vitamin C) is the most effective form of vitamin C, but it is also rather unstable and can cause skin irritation in high doses. Therefore, pure vitamin C is often used in conjunction with certain carriers. In our DAYTOX Vitamin C Cream, we use ascorbic acid in a special vitamin C gold complex, which stabilizes the vitamin C and makes it more tolerable. In our Vitamin C Serum, we combine two very stable and effective esters. This has the advantage of being more skin-friendly, penetrating the skin particularly well, and being highly effective.
