Highly concentrated active ingredients, intensive care, and immediate results: Serums are the ultimate superheroes in skincare. These powerful concentrates penetrate deep into the skin and unleash their maximum care effect. Learn everything you need to know about serums in this blog post.
What is a serum and how does it work?
A serum is a highly concentrated, intensive facial treatment that you apply after cleansing and before your moisturizer. Serums are characterized by their light, liquid texture, which allows the serum's active ingredients to penetrate the skin much more easily. The care molecules they contain are particularly small and can be absorbed even better by your skin than those in a cream. Whether retinol for anti-aging, hyaluronic acid for well-hydrated, plump skin, or salicylic acid for blemishes – there's an ideal, highly effective serum for every skin need.
Does the serum replace my day or night care?
The advantage of serums is that they contain much more potent active ingredients than creams. Even a small amount is enough to supply your facial skin with them.
However, the basic rule is: Serums are not a substitute for creams, as they don't contain lipid-replenishing ingredients. They are intended to effectively complement your day or night care routine and specifically improve specific skin concerns. If you tend to have dry or sensitive skin, be sure to follow with a cream. It protects your skin barrier and locks in the moisture and active ingredients of the serum. It locks the active ingredients into the skin, preventing evaporation. Only with very oily skin is it possible to use a serum alone, because this skin type already produces enough of its own sebum (skin oil).
Which active ingredients should I use?
Depending on your skin type and condition, different active ingredients are suitable for you. Hyaluronic acid, for example, provides a plump, fresh complexion, while salicylic acid effectively combats imperfections. Antioxidants such as vitamin C and retinol provide an anti-aging effect, giving the skin a fresh glow and preventing premature aging. At the same time, these two active ingredients reduce pigmentation and make the skin appear more even. When permanently integrated into your skincare routine, these beauty concentrates give you a balanced, healthier complexion.
How do I use a serum correctly?
After cleansing, pat a few drops of your serum into your skin. This is enough to deliver the concentrated ingredients into your skin. Important: Always apply the serum before your cream. Otherwise, the oily protective film of the cream would prevent the serum from being properly absorbed. As a rule of thumb, always apply from the lightest to the richest consistency – so first facial toner, then a serum, then the cream, then an oil if necessary.

Can I use different serums ?
Yes, you can incorporate different serums into your routine. For example, you can apply the vitamin C serum in the morning and the hyaluronic serum in the evening. Or you can incorporate the retinol serum into your evening routine twice a week. Take it slow and experiment to see what works for your skin. You can also layer your serums, for example, applying the Clear Skin Serum first and then layering the hyaluronic serum on top. With this technique, however, we recommend taking it slow and carefully observing what works for your skin. Over-conditioning can lead to skin irritation – and that's something we want to avoid!
Morning or evening – when should I use a serum?
Theoretically, any serum can be used both morning and evening. However, some serums are particularly well-suited for your morning routine if they contain antioxidants like vitamin C. These antioxidants protect your skin from harmful environmental influences throughout the day. Retinol (vitamin A) is an active ingredient that fits particularly well into your evening routine. Firstly, because it helps your skin regenerate at night, and secondly, because it makes your skin more sensitive to sunlight. However, even if you only use retinol in the evening, we recommend always wearing sunscreen during the day.
