Salicylsäure (BHA) – Das Wundermittel gegen Unreinheiten

Salicylic acid (BHA) – The miracle cure for impurities

Salicylic acid (BHA) is THE active ingredient for blemish-prone skin and is used in numerous skincare products. And for good reason: Salicylic acid effectively combats blemishes, pimples, and blackheads, has antibacterial properties, and helps reduce inflammation faster. We'll explain how your skin can benefit from this powerful ingredient.

What is salicylic acid (BHA)?

Salicylic acid or betahydroxy acid (BHA) is a very mild acid that is particularly known for its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects.
The acid gently exfoliates the skin by removing dead skin cells and excess sebum – completely without friction. Due to its sebum-regulating effect, it is particularly suitable for oily and combination skin. It is currently enjoying great popularity in the beauty world and is used in numerous scrubs, serums, creams, and masks to combat blemishes and pimples.

Gentle acid peeling against acne, pimples and blackheads

Our skin renews itself regularly. During this process, old, dead skin cells are shed. With blemished skin, this renewal process doesn't work properly, so dead skin cells stick to the skin and clog pores. This encourages blackheads, pimples, and minor inflammations. This is where salicylic acid comes into play: This mild acid acts like a gentle exfoliator, gently removing the top layer of skin and accelerating cell renewal. It removes dead skin, unclogs pores, and allows excess sebum to drain more easily. Thanks to its antibacterial effect, new pimples are eliminated early, thus preventing the formation of new blemishes. Salicylic acid is "lipophilic," or "fat-loving." This means it can easily penetrate the oily, upper layer of skin and penetrate deep into the skin. There, it cleanses thoroughly and transports dirt and other residues to the surface. Salicylic acid also has a soothing effect on the skin, soothing and reducing redness and inflammatory processes.

How and when do I use salicylic acid (BHA)?

We recommend a skincare product with a concentration of up to 2% salicylic acid, such as our Clear Skin Serum. This dosage is very effective without irritating the skin. Beginners to using salicylic acid can start with one application about 2-3 times a week – ideally in the evening after cleansing and before applying night cream. Once the skin has acclimated to the new active ingredient, salicylic acid can be used daily without any problems. Depending on the severity of the blemishes, you can apply the acid all over your face or just spot-on, small blemishes. And remember to apply your UV protection daily.

Don't give up! Initial deterioration is completely normal

During the first few weeks of use, the skin may worsen, with the appearance of blemishes and pimples. Many people are disappointed at this point and discontinue use of the product. This reaction is actually a sign that the salicylic acid (BHA) is working properly. Initial worsening is quite common, as the skin needs to adjust to the new treatment. Any impurities that were lurking beneath the top layer of skin will now come to light. Once these have healed, the complexion will be noticeably more refined. The skin's appearance will improve sustainably, and fewer pimples and blackheads will appear.

Caution : Due to the peeling effect of salicylic acid, a sun protection factor should always be used.
